Mary has been organising a renovation of our kitchen for some time now, and finally the work was scheduled to start early April. As we will be camping in our house for a few months we decided to have a short break in France before this, and drove over for a week of holidays. Although it was still mid March skiing season there was hardly any snow left on the lower slopes and in the valley, and we spend the days walking with Pippin, and doing some work around the house. Piet even managed some bike rides, in shorts and t-shirt. A very relaxing week!
On the way back we had two stopovers. The first night we stayed in Solutre, in the southernmost Burgundy region, where we did a long hike through the hills and vineyards of the Pouilly-Fuisse appellation, followed by a wine tasting and nice dinner. The next day we drove further north, towards Troyes, where we met up with Piet's friends, who where heading south for their yearly wine trip. It was pissing down with rain, so we did a walk near the hotel through boring agricultural fields, but that didn't bother Pippin at all. Apparently there were lot's of small, smelly animals (mice?), and he was running and jumping through the fields like a headless chicken, getting rid of his cropped up energy. The day was wrapped up with another nice dinner, and Mary drove back home the next morning, whilst Piet joined his friends to return south.
And the renovation actually started early April!
